What's New Around Oak Brook This Fall: Oakbrook Center's 2026 Arrivals and the Amazon Project on Butterfield

October 22, 2026

This March, a Chicago restaurant with Michelin and James Beard credentials opened a dining room inside Oakbrook Center. Five months later, the Oak Brook Village Board approved a building on Butterfield Road where the back half fills online orders. A dinner reservation and a fulfillment center sum up where Oak Brook's shopping is heading this year.

Both are reshaping Oak Brook's shopping this year. If you live here, they will also change how you spend a Saturday afternoon and which streets carry the traffic.

Oakbrook Center is filling up with places to stay a while

This year's arrivals at Oakbrook Center share a pattern. Most of them give you a reason to spend time there, not just to pick something up.

The Purple Pig brought a downtown restaurant to the mall

The original Purple Pig opened in downtown Chicago in 2009. The Oak Brook location is its first in the suburbs. The Daily Herald reported that the restaurant held a soft opening with limited seating on its first weekend and began taking reservations the following Monday. Marianna Bannos and Tony Mantuano are two of the four partners behind the Oak Brook opening. The menu is built on classic cooking, seasonal ingredients and shared plates. That kind of dinner works for a long evening with out-of-town guests. A quick bite between stores is a different kind of meal.

The Purple Pig's Oak Brook page lists current hours, the menu and reservations.

Dior and Hotel Chocolat are built around time spent in the store

Hoodline reported in early October that Christian Dior Parfums opened a standalone Dior Beauty boutique at Oakbrook Center. The boutique offers fragrance consultations, personalized makeup recommendations and skincare routines, and shoppers can have their own perfume bottles engraved. Before this, the nearest Dior presence was on Rush Street in Chicago. Oakbrook Center lists the boutique as now open on The Lawn, next to Apple.

Hotel Chocolat opened in August. It is a café as well as a chocolate shop, which gives the mall another place to sit down. The brand marked the opening with a series of August events that started on Saturday, Aug. 15.

UNIQLO is the one straightforward retail store on the list. Its arrival was still big news. NBC Chicago reported in October 2025 that the brand was opening two Chicago-area stores, and Oakbrook Center was the suburban one. UNIQLO's store page shows the grand-opening weekend began Friday, May 15.

Already open, and still on the way

Several other names are also open at the center:

  • Faherty at 34 Oakbrook Center
  • Mejuri at 32 Oakbrook Center, on Level 1
  • Rivian at 622 Oakbrook Center, on the first floor near Nordstrom

Oakbrook Center's directory lists three more as coming soon, with no opening dates yet:

  • The North Face
  • Sukoshi
  • Peachy

Mugsy, the jeans brand, is also listed as coming soon in the mall directory. However, Mugsy's own store list already shows an Oak Brook location at 424 Oakbrook Center with hours and a phone number, so it's worth calling before you go.

The center's events page is where holiday-season events usually appear. No 2026 holiday events are posted there yet.

Butterfield Road is getting a store with a fulfillment center behind it

While Oakbrook Center added places to linger, Butterfield Road is getting a store designed to move goods out quickly.

The Daily Herald reported that on Aug. 11 the Oak Brook Village Board voted 4-0 to let Amazon build a combination store and delivery center at 2901 Butterfield Road. The site is on the south side of Butterfield, east of Meyers Road. Three trustees were absent, so Village President Laurence Herman cast a vote himself.

Here is what the approval covers, according to that report:

  1. Zoning. The land changes from office use to retail, and seven parcels become one.
  2. The building. It will be 225,000 square feet on a 27-acre site. The front will be a store selling groceries and general merchandise, and the back half will be an order fulfillment center.
  3. What comes down. Seven three-story office buildings from the 1970s will be demolished.
  4. What Amazon pays the village. $1 million to replace a water main near the site and $125,000 for public-safety projects.
  5. What was dropped. An earlier version of the plan included a 101,000-square-foot furniture store. That part was removed.

Herman thanked Amazon "for having been very good partners in a very lengthy process," according to the Daily Herald, and noted that the original proposal went through many changes.

This will be the second store of its kind for Amazon. The first is under construction in Orland Park.

The timeline runs into 2028

Amazon proposed starting demolition this October and finishing construction by the end of October 2028. That leaves about two years of demolition and construction along that part of Butterfield before the store opens. Drivers who use Butterfield near Meyers Road should expect a work zone, not a new store, for some time.

What changes for Ginger Creek

The approval also changed traffic in a nearby neighborhood. To address residents' concerns that shoppers would use Baybrook Lane to get around Butterfield, the board banned through traffic on that street. Baybrook Lane runs between Meyers and Midwest roads through the Ginger Creek neighborhood.

Police Chief Brian Strockis said he didn't think through traffic would be a problem. Herman explained that marking the street "local traffic only" lets the village tell Waze and other navigation apps, so they can change how they route drivers. For people who live near Baybrook, that is the change most likely to affect them before the building itself goes up.

The same shift at Oak Brook Commons

The Amazon site is not the only former office land in Oak Brook being rebuilt. At Oak Brook Commons, near 2150 McDonald Drive and 22nd Street, One Oak Brook Commons is already open as a rental tower. Hines' project page describes the larger plan. It includes 250 rental units, creative and medical offices, condos, a hotel, and sites for shops and restaurants, with Alter Brewing Company listed as a major tenant.
